Has it already been two years? It feels like it's been a long time, but it doesn't feel like it's been two years. Does that make any sense. But the date got me thinking and that's always a dangerous thing. So here is my open letter to America about all the things it hasn't learned since the day the towers fell. *RANT WARNING*

1) To drug users: Marijuana and Ecstasy are bad for you. You know it and I know it, so please cut the BS. They are not illegal because the Mean Ol' Government wants to ruin your good time. They are illegal because these drugs make you stupid and there are enough stupid people born into the world as it is without you artificially making more.

2) To atheists: When you deny the existence of something you forfeit the right to be offended by it. So please, kindly shut up and let the rest of us enjoy Christmas/high school graduation/whatever. You are not being oppressed. You will KNOW when you are being oppressed. As a demonstration, please take a vacation in Iran or just about any nation in Africa or the Balkans so you can find out what being oppressed by a religion really is.

3) To Fundamentalist Christians: You are loud, rude, cruel, un-Christlike, and nobody likes you. Not even other Christians. Especially other Christians.

4) To a very tiny minority of black America: Nobody owes you reparations.

5) To illegal aliens: You are going the wrong way. Thanks to the crooked corporations who run our government making deals with the petty dictators who run yours, all our best jobs have been moved wherever it was you tried to leave from. Sorry. Joke's on you. I'm not happy about it either.

6) To pro-abortionists: I respect your point of view, but given it's nature, please stop being surprised when other people disagree with it.

7) To anti-abortionists: Remember all those children you told these girls to put up for adoption? Adopt one. It goes a looong way toward giving your argument weight. And lighten up on birth control, too. If it's that or a dead baby which would you rather pick?

8) To men: Contrary to what you may have read in HUSTLER, most women don't enjoy or even want to think about anal sex or sex with other women, so if your girlfriend says no, please just stop asking. However, if she says yes, (and more importantly, afterward says "again!") don't brag about it to your male friends. Cause dude, if you two break up, they're so totally calling her.

9) To women: We don't care how fat you are. Beauty comes from within and ugly knows no weight class.

10) To the Politically Correct: You are right, jokes about one's race/sexuallity/ethnicity/religion are not funny. What they are is FUCKING HILARIOUS! So step off the soap box, get over here, and start laughing your sick asses off with the rest of us.

Ah.. i love how you think. There needs to be more people around me who think this way. Although i'm still not sold that a God-created naturally occurring plant is wrong and should be treated like it is legally while people sit around and drink alcohol(brewed and distilled in man-made fashion)wherever, whenever and commit violent crimes or drive while wasted beyond any level of decency.
But you are always a breath of fresh air in such a polluted, convoluted world that selfishly tries to think only of it's own small little special interest group rather than any sort of bigger grander picture.

God created a lot of things that human beings have no business putting in their bodies. Thanks for the kind words though. ;)

I can hope! There needs to be a Pulitzer prize for ass-kicking. Yes, I think that's what we need.

To Pulitzer: Create an ass-kicking category. Please.

We really seem to be disagreeing a lot on this lately and I wonder if we shouldn't just put this aside as something we disagree on and don't discuss.

Having said that, that attitude is the reason the drug war continues. I don't want drugs to be legal just because I'm a "drug user." You lump all people into one group just like the drug war has taught you to do. That'd be like me saying all Christians hate anyone who doesn't believe what they do - and I know that's not true. The drug war wastes millions of dollars every year, is clearly not working as drug use is rampant and frankly, barely impared by the illegal status of drugs. Our prisons are over full with people who were arrested for drug use when so many studies have show that rehabilitation is the cheaper and healthier option. The government has tossed aside free speech and has begun going after a specific kind of music and the people who enjoy it in an effort to stop what they've been unable to in any other way.

The illegal status of drugs doesn't really inconvenience anyone. Sure you're arrested if you're caught wit them, but the ratio of those out there using drugs to those who're arrested for them shows that this isn't that much of a concern if you're careful. They're amazingling easy to find. With the drug war teaching us things like "just say no" and mystifying drugs without giving anyone any knowledge as to why they shouldn't do them it's no wonder kids try them as often as they do.

You say that drugs are illegal because they are bad for us. First of all, I accept that responsibility anytime I consume anything. McDonalds is bad for me and I accept that when I eat it. I've researched any substances I've tried in an effort to find the safest way to do so and how to take care of myself. I often wonder why smoking is legal and why drinking is legal. I know of far more people that have died as a result of alcohol consumption than of Ecstacy consumption. As a matter of fact, the only reason people die as a result of Ecstacy use is that they either A) are idiots and take too much and don't take care of themselves, or B) as a result of the random things pill makers put in the pills to make them cheaper to make or just flat out fake pills made with other substances. If the government could monitor the manufacture of ecstacy they could regulate these adulterants and stop these fake pills from killing people.

This issue has so many different complexities. I don't think you can simply say "all drug users are stupid." It's simply not a black and white issue.

I think the fact that you would need to research a substance to find the safest way to take it says a great deal right there.

I cmpletely agree that prison space should not be wasted on drug users - people caught in possession or whatever, not people who committed crimes under the influence. Rehabilitation is definately the best way. Besides, the way our prisons are, trying to punish a drug user by putting him in one is like trying to punish a child by locking him in a candy store.

As for doing what the drug war has "taught me to do," I don't feel that's the case. I haven't known as many drug users as a lot of people I know, but I've known enough personally to stand by my statement that the drugs I mentioned have an effect on your brain chemistry which lasts beyond the initial high and stymies your mental functions. Alchohol might do that to your liver, but not your brain, (unless you're drinking enough in a binge to damn near kill yourself anyway.) Ditto for nicotine and your lungs. Show me that McDonald's does that and I'll stop eating there.

I don't think you can simply say "all drug users are stupid

Unfortunately, I can, I just did, and will probably continue to do so.

It's simply not a black and white issue.

Maybe not, but that's just it: I tend to see things in black and white, which is what's led us to so many disagreements in the past. You're right. This is probably something we just shouldn't talk about. We know each other's opinion and probably aren't going to change each other's, so perhaps a moritorium on the topic is for the best.

Wow. Tyree, you just called me stupid. I didn't think you'd let a discussion like this lead to that, at least not without any sort of softening of the stupid calling, which I guess I should take to mean that you meant not to soften it. Which I think is sad.

By taking any sort of drug I am accepting the responsibility of my actions. That includes any wholes in my brain that may occur as a result. For me, the risk is worth the reward and as an adult I feel capable of making that decision. I don't run around putting anything I can find into my body. I don't get high every weekend. I am a responsible drug user. You may not understand it and that's fine. However, I don't think blanket statements like the one you made can ever be good. Only ends up offending people, including your friends. I can look past what I see in you and don't understand (your religion) and I don't call you stupid for it. In fact, I admire you for it.

I think it's definitely time for any further disucssions about drugs to be off limits. I do also acknowledge that I sort of started this whole discussion - I could have just let your comment go. To be honest, though, I was offended by it and thought it was closed minded and wanted to talk about it with you.

So, how's the weather?

You're right. I could've worded that a lot better. Even if I believed all drug users were stupid people I could never defend it. People like Timothy Leary, William S. Burroughs, Jim Morrison and a lot of others were all bona fide geniuses who've done many things I admire and I like and admire you too. What I should've said was that I feel it is a stupid choice, and smart people can make stupid choices as much as anyone else. (Just look at our president with Iraq.) It's just more tragic when they do it. That's probably not the kind of apology you want, but it's the best I can give and still be true to my beliefs, just as you must be true to yours.

The weather's great. It's autumn. If you were here I'd suggest we go jump in some leaves and forget all about unpleasant discussions. Another really great thing about autumn? Candy's cheap. Cheap candy, cheap gas. This is America the way it should be.

As someone who has been to a great many raves, I understand the logic your attempting to use here. It's what most intelligent people who do drugs use, I'm willing to admit both smart and dumb people do drugs. But it's both due to poor choices, this does not make an individual dumb in my thoughts, mearly lacking wisdom. "I am a responsible drug user" is a very interesting statement, responsibility holds a reffernace to takeing things into acount and understanding the situation, which your not you say people are "mystifying drugs" I've seen what E does, and I'll give you people on it are 99% harmless, in fact they are some of the nicest people I've met. When do we draw the line? Meth? Pot? What drug should be legal? Which ones should not? You seem to be a smart girl, should we allow drugs that just give a buzz? What about some hard core mind altering ones?

Lets just pretend we legalized a good portion of them. The goverment is now in control and it is regulated by the FDA. Now the goverment is controling the dose amount and the price of your fix. Are you going to be happy with the "Healthy" Portion that has been declared per dose? Maybe you'll buy more to get a better hit. People will complain abotu the price, the amount per dose, who is to say it will even stop drug wars and street selling? People won't be happy unless they can get enough of what they want or the type that they want. Peoples idea of legalizing what ever has a great many ramifications, and for people like you who are "weekend users" as you get called here, yeah it's not an issue, you people sit in your house or what ever and leave people the hell alone. But then there are also the crazy guys who run around going nuts in the street, or run over a little kid, I mean good lord we have enough problems with just alcohol, thats bascially one drug just one and look how much trouble it causes, why because people are stupid and a good number can't be responsiable with their actions. Imagine the chaos and trouble multipul drugs regulations police would need to deal with on a daily basis? What about cross selling of drugs? Mixed "Perscriptions" even better what about a bar type situation, legalized buildings for the selling "oh damn I sold little Sally some Crack when she was really wanting E" hmm hope that doesn't cause a problem.

what you want is a bigger headach than just fighting it and hopeing maybe, just maybe we won't see anymore crack babies oneday down the long long road.

Now you say you're responsiable, thats fine, plenty of people are not. If I had it my way alcohol would be illegal to, but i mean hell that would only prevent a couple hundred thousand deaths, so what do I know.

End Rant.
