Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.
As much as I've wanted to do this one, I've avoided it. I genuinely don't think I'm very interesting and hate describing myself. Oh well, here goes.
1) I tend to feel contempt for people who like "popular" music, yet also for people who like obscure "indie" music. I'm trying to work on this.
2) I absorb interesting names subliminally without remembering where I got them. This has made me have to rename more than one fictional character, place, or thing when I learned I had in fact ripped its name off from another work of fiction.
3) I love British science fiction, yet hate The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with insane, passionate fury.
4) I am solitary and reclusive by nature.
5) I love pork; sausage in particular. If you told me I could eat no other meat but pork for the rest of my life I'd be like "great, when do I start?"
6) I sometimes overcome writer's block by writing comically outrageous sex scenes between the characters and then erasing them. You've heard of those ancient Roman plays where they'd need midgets to hold up the actors' fake penises? It's like that. The more serious the scene I'm trying to write, the better this solution works.
7) Occupations I've had (as in gotten paid for,) in chronological order: paperboy, frycook, dishwasher, delivery driver, video arcade manager, theatre stage manager, security guard, landscaper, theatre stagehand, picture framer, remodelling crew, security guard (different company), music composer, retail manager, novelist, security supervisor.
8) I used to paint in oils. If I ever live in a space where I can create some kind of actual studio, I'll take it up again.
9) My favorite things to draw are masks and roses. Almost every painting or drawing I've ever made has them somewhere.
10) I collect B.C. Rich Warlock guitars. I currently own three.
11) I love bubblegum flavor but don't like bubblegum. It loses the flavor too fast.
12) Most people assume Nene Thomas is my favorite living artist but she's not.
13) I get unreasonably excited when I see obscure character actors I recognize in things.
14) I'm a sucker for non-linear storytelling, mindfucks, twist endings, and unanswered questions.
15) #14 explains why my favorite TV show is Lost, my favorite novel is House of Leaves, my favorite video game is Silent Hill, and my favorite movie is The Fountain.
16) I don't forgive easily.
17) Even though I have a B.A. in Theatre, I have for all intents and purposes retired from acting. Doing shows just takes entirely too much out of me.
18) I identify with and am far more comfortable around women than men.
19) Procrastination is my worst enemy.
20) Silent Hill and Shadow of the Colossus pretty much ruined console gaming for me. Most console games don't even come close to containing as much of #14 as they did.
21) One of the things I miss the most from my college days is being able to go for long walks between 10pm and 1 or 2 in the morning.
22) I missed the point of Legos as a child. Once I built something I would never, ever take it apart.
23) In keeping with #5 I could eat barbecue all day. Sadly, I do not know how to actually barbecue. Living in Kansas City, this is an embarassing admission to make.
24) Growing up in the 80's my first love in video games will always be the classics. As much as I have adapted to the ever-changing technology, you could swap out my World of Warcraft for Galaxians and I would still play for hours.
25) As a child I vowed for many years that I would legally change my name when I became old enough to do so. Now I wouldn't dream of it.
That took entirely too long. Please don't ask me to do that again.
Not tagging anyone. Do it if you want.

Date: 2009-01-29 08:50 pm (UTC)My jaw about hit the floor when I found out "The Wrestler" is an Aronofsky film. No hallucinations, time warps, or Ellyn Burstyn? I can't get my head around that.
