Writer's Block: Doctor Who?
Jan. 7th, 2009 08:23 am[Error: unknown template qotd]First: to all the fangirls bawling about how "omg it's not David Tennant anymore omgcry!" Um... it's Doctor Who. The entire premise of the character is that they CHANGE THE ACTOR from time to time. GET OVER IT.
All I've actually seen of the new DW was a few episodes from season 1 where it was Christopher Eccelston, but I grew up on the old series so I'll take a stab at it.
Since I am unaware of any rule of Galliffreyan biology that says the Doctor always has to be a white guy, I nominate either Danny John-Jules, best known as The Cat from Red Dwarf and Asad from Blade II or Chiwetel Ejiofor who played The Operative in Serenity. They both have an outstanding range as actors and would be well-suited to the Doctor's various quirks and his distinctive humor.
Ideal solution: cast John-Jules as the Doctor and Ejiofor as the Master. Now THAT would be awesome. They still have the Master in the new series, right?
Actually it looks like John-Jules has recently beein in trouble with the law. That's unfortunate. Garbagemen have enough to worry about without potentially getting knifed by refugees from the sci-fi convention circuit.
Apparently garbagemen in the UK are called "dustmen." Makes them sound like villains in a science fiction story, sort of like the firemen in Farenheit 451. In fact, I'm having some dim recollection of a science fiction story where the bad guys were called dustmen. Maybe The Cat thought he was protecting the universe? Or he could have just been an eccentric character actor throwing a tantrum. Who knows. It makes me sad because I've always really liked him. How can you not like someone who did a voice in Labyrinth?
