uberreinigerI'm not one to obsess over little details I see in blockbuster movies, but I got to thinking about this at work today. It helps that the electronics department is right next to mine and they play the Avengers trailer over and over again so I see it all day and start thinking about the movie all over again.
Has anyone else noticed that Agent Coulson's death scene is framed exactly the same way as Shepherd Book's death in Serenity? Seriously. In both films the hero kneels to the left of the dying tough-but-lovable adviser who is sitting more than lying. The dying character takes advantage of his last breaths to give the hero a pep talk. Then the hero stands as the medic(s) rushes in. The camera pans the hero to center focus while the injured man and the medics slowly slide out of the frame on the right side. It is literally the exact same shot recreated! And of course in both films the death is what galvanizes the team to go head-on against the Big Bad's unstoppable army.
Maybe Joss is getting sloppy or maybe he did it that way on purpose. Lots of filmmakers have certain visual motifs and types of shots that they just plain like and do over and over again. I just thought it was nifty.
There has been much fan speculation that Coulson actually survived and will return. I always felt that Book's death in Serenity left just enough ambiguity that they could bring him back eventually if they wanted to. Maybe Whedon is shaping up to do the big "Return" scene with Coulson that he never got to do with Book.
Also seen at work today: tweaker couple buying 72 bottles of Pepsi products. That is not an exaggeration. When I posted about this on Facebook numerous people confirmed for me that yes, 2 liter soda bottles can be used in meth production. I feel like an accessory to a crime.
Bonus also seen at work today: paramedics and police officers swarming all around because a customer passed out on the sales floor. I don't know much more than that because I didn't want to be part of a gawking crowd. It just seemed like one of "those" days all the way around.

Date: 2012-05-12 04:14 pm (UTC)Some people are theorizing he will become Vision (the robot created by the robot that was created by Ant Man (who needs to be Nathan Fillion wtf) because Nick Fury said something about him being his right eye/good eye which a lot of people are stretching out to be him saying he was his vision. I dunno. Speculation always gets funny with these things. I doubt that is his plan, that doesn't seem very "Whedon-y" to me. I personally think Nick Fury just faked it all to bring them together and Phil is totally recovering some where. Nick Fury isn't afraid to play dirty like that lol.
