Despite being the least athletic person in my entire school, I actually enjoyed P.E. for the most part in grade school. This was before Middle School where they started making you take humiliating group showers for no other reason than because they could. Anyway, favorite thing in grade school P.E. was parachute day where we'd play games that mostly involved throwing the parachute up in the air, then running underneath it as it floated down.

Least favorite thing was the monkey bars of death. I seriously didn't like heights as a kid and our gym had this set of monkey bars that was like, eight feet off the ground. Seriously, a grown man could hang off this thing without his feet touching the ground. So to a little kid it may as well have been twenty feet in the air. Plus by the time I would get to it the bars would already be slippery from the sweat of a dozens of grubby little hands. Traversing that thing was always an exercise in unrelenting, paralyzing terror. Balance beams were similarly frightening.

I hated anything that had to do with arm strength, but I loved gymnastics and the bar. The only thing i couldn't do is get from the low to the high bar on the uneven bars. Elementary school PE was much more fun. We learned to do double dutch jump rope, gymnastics, dancing, scooters, the parachute...if only working out were as fun now!

Scooters rocked. They were the most fun you could have putting your butt on something hard and sliding around on it without needing lubricant.

Stupid question, but working out can't be that fun now? Sure, most of those require more people, but...

sure, if you are into working out. I am not, as evident when looking at me, but when I was a kid (under 6th grade) I loved PE. Wonder what went wrong...

Gotcha. I was just thinking it might help if you had friends/toys that would help you recapture some of that joy...

Parachute day was to gym what steak finger day was to lunch.

I liked pizza day and never questioned how it always fell on the day after chili day... until the day I found beans on my pizza. Then I was just disgusted, not just at the reuse but at such a feeble attempt to disguise it.

I liked fiestada day, and cream turkey day! I could still eat those things if I ever wanted to brave the lunch room. I don't.

I only liked it when I was a kiddie and 5 or so and we could just climb stuff, no dumbass showers. They forced us into communal nudity aged 10, and i'm still suffering the effects now, it traumatised me, literally. :(

I'm surprised it didn't traumatise me. If being forced to look at the tremundous wangs of people you hate doesn't turn you into a serial killer I don't know what will.

Did I mention some of those dudes' wangs were tremendous? As in, I don't know how they could've gotten erect without falling forward.

Wouldn't they pass out first? ;)

I wish. Perhaps then I'd have gotten some peace in middle school.

People are terrible to each other sometimes. It's only been fairly recently that society has started to recognize what a serious problem bullying is, and I can't help but wonder why no-one noticed sooner.

I hated gym with an extreme passion. I have some minor issues with my legs that were just enough to add to my overall uncoordinatedness, but were not actually serious enough to get me out of gym.

By high school though (where we were only required to take 2 semesters total, they offered aerobics as an alternative. That class was great because it was all the girls who hated gym+all the geeky theater boys who weren't athletic. Fun times.

That sounds awesome :) At my high school I had to endure the two semesters, but by then it wasn't as bad since I'd lost all my weight and wasn't such a target.

I loved the parachute game. We did a thing called Popcorn where you would put a ball on sheet and trying to pop it in the air.

Popcorn was awesome! I loved when you would all put it up in the air, get under it, and then bring it down behind you and sit on it. It was like being in a big tent :)

Ugh. I am overweight, terribly uncoordinated, and have a slow processing speed, plus a bad knee and asthma, so I hated phys ed from Grade 3 onwards, except for health class, since that only exercised my brain. Also I got picked on a lot. You know how when you play dodgeball in gym and there's always the one kid who gets the ball thrown at them all the time on purpose? That was me. I just covered my head with my arms-there was nothing else to be done.

I didn't have the dodge ball horrors that so many have posted today. It was actually an enjoyable game for me. One time the class bully nailed me in the face but the gym teacher, who was actually a decent guy for a gym teacher, let him have it for that one. He didn't tolerate a lot of BS in his dodgeball matches.

Good for that gym teacher-all to often I think either the teacher doesn't notice, or doesn't do anything about it for some reason.

I always liked soccer and archery. Yes, my high school actually had an archery range. Almost made up for the fact that EVERY Friday they made us run a mile.

Football and tennis were okay, I actually would play tennis on weekends for fun when I was in high school. I always found baseball unendingly boring, playing or watching it.

EVERY Friday!? My goodness, I would die. We only had to do it once a semester and that was almost unendurable.
