Great things about being on vacation:

1) Competing at a national level in a challenging hobby, wondering if you're really as good at it as you think you are, and finding out that you are.

2) Getting to spend time in beautiful Indianapolis, whose downtown area may possibly one of America's best-kept secrets.

3) Getting to see [livejournal.com profile] meggmoon for the first time in over two years.

4) Spending time with friends, making new ones, getting neat stuff.

Great things about being home from vacation:

1) Being able to use a restroom that's not full of people and which doesn't smell like a cattle stall.

2) Being able to sit down finally and enjoy aforementioned neat stuff.

3) Having privacy again.

I'm back, I'm happy, I'm doing it again next year, I'm going to bed now. Details to follow.

I quallified for the semis at 6-2 using Kaiu Walls/Naseru. I then went 2-2 in the semis before I dropped. I was really exhausted having done the LARP the night before but I had a good time and it was an amazing event. I mostly wanted to see if I was as good as I thought I was and could quallify since it was my first Gen Con. Having done that, going further wasn't as important. I faced A LOT of Scorpion decks - all pure. My two losses in the semis were to Scorpion and Rats, which as we all know are basically an automatic loss for Kaiu Walls. Each clan was well-represented, though. The least-heavily played one seemed to be Unicorn for some reason o_O

You do LARP? What kind of LARP exactly if you don't mind my asking? I mean I should have figured as such since you're an actor and all but...~Grins~

*smiles* It was a LARP for Legend of the Five Rings, which, if you haven't heard of it is an RPG set in a fantasy Japanese setting with Samurai and bushido and what not. It's an empire composed of several samurai clans, each with their own specialty and there's a demonic empire that opposes them. Anyway, at this particular LARP I portrayed a shugenja (priest) of the Phoenix Clan, who are the undisputed authorities on magic in the empire. In between announcements from the Empress and courtly contests and such, I was running around trying to broker an agreement with the Phoenix's ruling council and the shugenja of another clan to try and study an ancient, evil spell scroll I had discovered while evading people who were there at the court to find out what had happened to the same scroll. It was great fun!

~Just dies with jealousy, points to Kimono and Katana in her room~ That's awesome! Truly that sounds like great fun, and a real interactive theater experience like few have had the delight of enjoying. ~Wants to go next year now!~

That'd be cool. I'd like that! We could meet face to face even! Yes, you must come. I have decided. As for dying of jealousy, I think after hearing all your tales of the Isles a little turnabout is fair play ;)

True enough...is it at the same time every year? ~Plots quietly~...Karen must come...She goes to Con's all the time, in fact we're supposed to go to some together this fall actually, though I'm not sure exactly which ones. Indeed, if I can find the means to manage getting there, I will do my best to make it so. Yes it would be quite fun ^.^

I think so, the third weekend in July. I'll need to see if they've updated their website for next year. I'll send you information as it becomes available. I'd recommend booking a motel room several months in advance. That's what we did and it got us a nice location at a sweet price. Where would you be having to travel from?

Who did you play in the LARP?

I was Isawa Masaaki, the little goob who has the Black Scroll. In between helping the council make peace with the Lion I was dodging people who were hunting my scroll. It was a blast.

Awesome! Masaaki is a good man. How many were playing in the LARP?

He is, one of many Phoenix whom I'm sad won't be in Diamond. The LARP was chock full. All 120 slots, I think.
