This weekend is going to be an interesting challenge. Since they're moving our data center to the new building this weekend, I was able to pick up eight hours of overtime, but at an odd time of day. Tomorrow morning I'll have to come home at 8:45 am, try to get some sleep so I can be back at work at 6 pm, work until 2 AM Saturday, come home, get up again so I can go take care of Dean and Lesley's dogs one last time before they get home, come back home, clean up the apartment for company, and then be ready to GM my Exalted game by 6:30 pm Saturday night. Not saying I can't do it, but it's going to be one of my more interesting weekend trapeze acts, that's for certain.

For these following Mel's journal, yes, we are tempted to adopt one of Lesley's newborn kittens once they're old enough. I don't know how much it costs to fix a cat around here or to get it it's shots. Hopefully it's not much. I'm willing to budget for food and litter so that's the least problem. The big problem is the pet deposit, which is like, $120 plus another $50 fee. The increase in rent that comes with all that is negligable. It's mostly just the big fee and then making sure there's enough money always on hand for vet visits if need be. Hopefully they'll hang on to a kitten for us while we figure it all out. We both miss having cats and I really think it would brighten our home up in a way that it really needs.

What else... Hmm... I have discovered that Diet Mountain Dew is the first diet soda I have ever found which I can actually stand to drink. I have never been able to stand diet soda, feeling that it tastes the way gasoline smells. Yet with Diet Mountain Dew, that fossil fuel tase is burried under enough layers of Mountain Dewiness that it actually seems drinkable. It seems I may have found an ally in my uphill quest to find healthier alternatives.

I really need a headphone adapter for my guitar amps.

I believe there is a cheap place downtown to spay/neuter pets. It's on Main street near Westport. I'm not sure what "cheap" is, but I bet it's worth checking into.

That might actually be the vet clinic right next door to where I work. That's the only one on Main near Westport that I know of.

Well I know there's a vet down across from the QT on Main. The place I'm thinking of though, is closer to 41st? by the Madrid.

The one I know of is the former one. I'll look for the one at 41st when I drive in tonight.

By far the best and most reliable deal is going to a great vet with an insurance program. Banfield (the vet clinics inside petsmart locations) offers an insurance program with a one-time sign up fee and a small monthly fee - around $15. You can get the kitten program so that your new little guy would get all his shots. You get all the routine vaccinations for free for life, and also a small discount on other kinds of medication and optional procedures. There are several levels of insurance, we've got all our four on the most basic, which covers all routine things, and gives you free checkups if you need to come in and ask questions or get somebody to look at Fuzzy. Fixin' is covered with the insurance program, I believe, or at least you get a discount on it. I would discourage you from going to a low-cost clinic, because you're screwed the first time your animal needs real vet care and the clinic isn't open or simply doesn't do what you need. Find a real vet, and get their insurance deal. Per pet, our program with banfield has saved us a thousand dollars over the course of the couple of years we've had everybody. My 2 cents!!

sleep? Who needs that? This is why we have caffeine!

yay kitten!!
it never hurts to just call local vets and ask their basic rates. most will tell you, and if they don't, you probably don't want that one anyway.

the only diet drink I've ever managed to not hate is Diet Dr Pepper. It tastes remarkably like regular DP AND it lacks the nasty aftertaste. /commercial

When I got Auron his first shot's this month, it cost $75 Canadian. I also have to get him his next shots at the end of the month, and then at 6 months get him fixed which is $165.

Yay kitty! I called all around when I had that first stray. There are a couple places that ask you to take a "survey" and the cost of the shots/spay/neuter is based on income and others have open vet clinics. I'd look into them; Spay & Neuter Services - 816-353-0940 & Humane Society of Greater KC - 913-596-1000. The one is downtown somewhere, the other I know is over the stateline. I don't know what would be close you guys, but they could probably direct you to a nearby place if nothing else.
