uberreinigerI've got my computer back!
Naturally, the modem checked out perfectly fine and refused to disconnect in their presence, so I may be back at square one here. They did remove some spyware though. If the problem continues then the fault apparently lies with the service provider and I'll have to call them. So to everyone who chats with me... Good to see you all again. Just keep in mind that we're not out of the woods yet.

Well it looks like my computer does indeed still have disconnection problems, although they are not as bad as they were (so far.) Maybe removing the spyware made a difference? Either way, I see a long period of sitting on hold with my internet service provider in the the near future.
