After Shakespeare rehearsal today, stopped at CD Warehouse to by myself some metal as an Easter present since no one else is getting me anything. It seems I picked the moment when every rap music fan in Independence just happened to be in there shopping. Times like this make me glad I use Master Card.

-Dark Tranquillity cd: $12.99

-Dimmu Borgir cd: $13.99

-The look on a bunch of thug rapper wannabes' faces while you purchase cd's in your ren fest costume: Priceless.

Dimmu Borgir!!!

We have way too much in common. Have you ever listened to Children Of Bodom or In Flames???

Hee Hee, do I listen to In Flames. You haven't been reading my "Current Music" signatures very closely, have you? ;) In fact, I was going to collect some stars to shine for you, but today there were only a few ;D

Bodom's pretty cool. "Follow the Reaper" is the only cd of theirs I own. I haven't heard "Hatecrew Deathtoll" yet, although I'm sure it's good. I pretty much love every one of the Gothenburg bands, although In Flames is by far my favorite with Soilwork following a close second.

It couldn't have been better if I'd planned it. Most of the stares were coming from two young guys wearing identical outfits that made them look like Kriss Kross! (Remember them?) I've had "Jump! Jump!" going through my head all night since then.

I was cracking up after reading that priceless statement. I can imagine what kind of looks you were getting, as I work with rapper wannabe's every day.

By the way, thanks for getting that damn kriss kross song in my head. I had nearly forgotten they existed..guess I know what my students will be hearing today. They always love it when I sing :)

If it makes you feel any better, today I've had The Fine Young Cannibals' "She Drives Me Crazy" in my head for no good reason. That would be another good song to torture your students with, especially since it contains a few high notes which could send wales into a mating frenzy.

mmm .. Dark Tranquility .. if you're looking for "dark" bands, try Dark Sanctuary. They're a French metal band (I think) ... and lets see what else

the ones your friend mentioned rock ass too .. like In Flames .. I know you know this already :)

what about stuff like Tiamat and Arcturus .. do you like them?

Never heard Dark Sanctuary. I'll have to check them out. I pretty much like my metal dark and melodic, with keyboards wherever possible. Tiamat were good. Don't own any of their stuff, but have a friend who's quite into them. I don't think I've ever heard Arcturus, though.

Man, I grab up one cd on my want list and three more spring up in its place. Like fighting an army of bio-engineered cockroach/mushroom hybrids!

Lovely picture of you, by the way :)

Oh I went there last time I was out visiting. There's 2 other cd stores I was dragged into too, I can't remember the names, but I know they were right in KC. I think one of them was the other side of the Nelson. And the other...maybe Westport? I dunno, my memories of that day are haunted by this woman begging for money and my dear Chris, just taking off inside just as fast as he could and leaving me out there all alone to deal with her. I had nightmares about her following me around for a week, showing up everywhere I went. Heh.

But anyway, both of those cds: good stuff. Since someone else made it a point to mention French bands, ever heard Misanthrope?

That would probably be Streetside Records you're thinking of, just a few blocks from the Nelson in Westport. I didn't know you'd ever been out here to KC. THat's neat. If it's any consolation, 90% of the beggars down in Westport are con artists. Deal with them mercilessly and scorn them. Anyway, I've heard the name Misanthrope but never actually heard the band. What are they like?

I guess it's gonna take some getting used to, as most of the beggars I've run into here are genuinely poor/hungry.

I took Chris up to Montreal to some of my favorite cd stores last time he was here (he's the bf fellow in KC). I'm going to miss them when I move. It was always worth the drive because I could pick up loads of things that are hard to get my grubby little hands on here in the states. Anyhow, he nearly wet himself when he found a few Misanthrope titles he had been scouring the internet for. Yeah, Lurex...get to the point...um...so that's how I first heard them. They're melodic, some keyboards, their lyrics are in both French and English and vary from song to song, definitely worth a listen.

Hey I'll be out there this summer too. It's looking like the end of June or early July. Wanna keep me company if Chris has to work? We can raid his cd collection and then I can show you my liquor store (at 39th? and Prospect) where I made him stop one night when I had to pee. There was a group of people fighting in the parking lot, around his car with him in it. He didn't like that so much. Paranoid little fellow. I walked right into the place, past the counter and into the back room...no one noticed, no one said a word. There was this lone guy in the back stocking the cooler, to whom I asked for use of the restroom. Mind you, the bathroom was pretty gross and there was a hole in the door big enough to put your head through. But when you gotta go, you gotta go...and filth doesn't seem to matter anymore. But really, I could have stolen a lot of things and went out just as I came in. I don't think I'll ever be let out to go potty during transit anymore though; not after that. =)

Why I would love to! (Keep you company when you visit, that is. Not help knock over the evil liquor store.) I work not too far from that area. I'll have to swing by there some morning on the way home and check it out ;)

Yes, there are genuine homeless people here, but Westport is full of people running scams, usually the same ones over and over, which is how you can tell they are scams. It's typically either "Hey my buddy ditched me and I need money for a cab!" or "My car ran out of gas. Can I have some money?" Maybe if somebody would hit me up with a different sob story from everyone else's I'd be more sympathetic.

But yes, definately let me know when you plan to come. It would be awesome to meet one of my LJ friends in the flesh.
