More and more lately I keep finding myself with things to blog about but when I sit down to do it it all goes away.

I got very nauseous on the way to work today. Wound up calling in sick and coming home. I feel bad about doing it but I knew I wasn't going to be able to pull a shift. I slept for most of the day and woke up feeling okay. Maybe it was stress that did it to me, I dunno. Work has been stressing and angering me a lot lately.

I'm really doing well writing music for my future metal band. I'm making a focused effort to write for soprano female vocals and it's actually turning out to be really good for me musically. It's getting me to add an element to my songwriting that I've been trying to find but that just hasn't been there before. After the theatre group does its performances in June I plan to buckle down, get with some musicians, and get to serious work. Exciting yet scary at the same time.

The price for all this musical completeness is that my fiction writing has suffered. I need to get back on that.

Questions of faith keep springing up a lot around me lately and I seem to encounter them even when trying not to seek them out. Maybe someone's trying to tell me something. I know a lot of it is probably being spurred by a book I'm reading called Wanderings by Chaim Potok. I don't read as much non-fiction as I should but I found this book on the clearance rack for one dollar and couldn't pass it up. It's a history of the Jewish people, but also serves as a very comprehensive history of the Middle East both before and during Biblical times. It takes a really interesting and informative approach to both Judaic and pagan beliefs of that time and how they changed and developed. It's really making my mind open to exploring a lot of things and asking a lot of questions. Potok is primarily a fiction writer and I'm curious to check out his novels now based on how unflinchingly he handles non-fiction.

I don't know that I can blame Potok's history book entirely though. I think the questions would keep coming up regardless.

Good luck with your music writing, I love the combination of hard metal with strong rising female vocals. I'm very anxious to hear what you eventually come up with.

It's gradually become my favorite subgenre too. If I finally get it up and rolling you probably won't be able to get me to shut up about it :)

YAY!
Also, I think it was you. A while ago (Years!) someone posted music videos on their LJ and one was a girl locked in a basement, crying, getting her head shaved. Apparently it was inspired by that fuck who kept his daughter in the cellar and raped her for 15 years or something.

Was that you and if so, link?

Looking forward to your future musical endeavours. The stuff you're writing sounds right up my alley.

Always happy to talk questions of faith with you, bro, if you need someone.

I'm excited. Getting impatient, actually. It feels good to be excited about something enough again to be impatient about it.

I've got a lot of theological thoughts whirling through my head lately. I would be grateful for any and all input no matter what the spiritual background.

I would love to hear some of your music...
wouldn't be able to be your singer, though, because I'm rather mezzo/alto :)

I'm writing with soprano in mind because all the interested singers around me just happen to be that range. Believe me, I'd adapt my songwriting to you in a heartbeat if we could work together. I just figure there's that distance thing :)

Yeah...although....recording might be feasible thanks to filesharing :)

True... I don't know if it's still the case, but when Nile's current drummer first joined he lived in Greece and they would record their music that way. Honestly I'd love to be able to be like Therion with different vocalists helping out. We must look into this...

Ooh! Listening to Beats Antique! Very cool.

You know I got carried away myself there about the whole faith thing.

This weekend I picked up a book on the existence between lives-- what we do as spirits before and after being alive in human bodies. Based on this guy doing deep, deep hypnotic regression stuff, so taken with a shaker full of salt... But I bought it because what he's describing seems to match some of my own remembered spiritual experiences and it feels true. Another FAITH thing that I can't prove.

Got to see Beats Antique live a few weeks ago. They just get better and better.

Don't beat yourself up over the faith thing. It was a productive discussion for everyone involved and those are all too rare these days.

So what does a spirit do on a spirit's day off, so to speak?

Was Zoe the bellydancer with them? She's SO much fun to watch! =^D

Good to know we ended up having a good discussion.

How does a spirit holiday? Excellent question. Another question: Do they need to?

Reminds me of a quote from American Horror Story: "you'll find words like 'ancient' have no meaning when your existence is one endless today."

Zoe is indeed their dancer and she came with a whole battery of dances and costumes I've never seen her do before, including a couple that made very creative use of a full mask covering her face. I don't know if she intends her dances to feel like a religious rite but they do. In a very good way.

They (and Zoe Jakes) performed at Faerieworlds 2 years ago, and it was wonderful!
