To steal a line from Romeo & Juliet, I hate job-hunting as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee. I would rather receive dental surgery from a proctologist with unwashed hands than job hun. This is how I've always felt.

Made my first inquiry on Friday. Pyramid scheme. Tried the classified ads yesterday, found about four numbers to call out of hundreds posted. Job hunting through classifed ads is like digging through a manure pile to find a diamond ring that you can't remember which cow swallowed. What's up with classified ads anyway? Why don't any of these fools want to TELL YOU the name of their business in the ad? I dunno about you, but I hate dialing blind phone numbers. My crippling shyness aside, I just hate going into a situation unprepared. Plus, it's been my experience that most classified ads which dont' post the company's name (which is 95% of all classifieds,) do so for a reason: if they did, they know that no one would call them. No one would want to. If you're an out of work nurse or truck driver, the want ads are your best friend. For the rest of us, it gets a little trickier.

And yet we beat on, boats against the current, born ceaselessly backward into the past.

I'm still employed, btw. Just looking.

Dude! You gotta use the net for that stuff. monster.com is pretty good - and there's tons like that. but there are also all of these arts sites that help you find careers. idealist.org is a good one, it lists job openings and volunteers ops world wide. Here's a list we've been looking at in my classes. They're almost all non-profit focuses, but working in the arts means non-profits. I know you're probably looking for any job, but these are worth checking anyway. Good luck tyree.

I'm thinking of hiring a house boy. Would you be interested in that? Pay isn't super great but there could be perks... like, um... Ice cream! I'll provide ice cream! Good deal, huh?

I've given monster.com a lot of chances and only got contacted once in the two or so years I had a resume up. Thanks for all the links though. I'll definately be exploring them. And I'm flattered that you would ask me of all people to be your houseboy. I know you do not give out your... ice cream... to just anyone :)

I hear you.. the only other thing that even remotely parallels with my hatred of hunting for a job is hunting for a place to live. There's just something in me (maybe pride.. but i dont consider myself very proud)that makes me not like to go ask others for employment or housing.. it makes me feel like some unemployed homeless schmuck or something.. i dunno. But i hear you. i hate looking for work too. i'm glad its over for now...
