Writer's Block: Commercials: the Best and Worst

[Error: unknown template qotd]McDonald's has this new "southern style" chicken sandwich (which is tasty, I might add.) Apparently to show how "southern" it is their commercials for it feature black people who talk about how it's "just like nana used to make." What makes its subtle racism more creepy is how hard they try to make it NOT look racist by having them clearly be financially successful upper middle class black people. I normally make fun of white people who get all afraid that something might be racist, but for this I'll make an exception. McDonalds, why don't you just serve that up with a side of watermelon while you're at it?

I dig those commercials for Free Credit Report.com where it's the garage band singing about how bad their financial situation is and how it could have been avoided if they'd checked their credit report. There's one where they're greeters in a pirate-themed restaurant, one where they're buying a used car, and there used to be one where the singer was going on about how his wife's bad credit is making them live in her parents' basement. They don't show that one anymore though. Somebody probably got offended.
