Happy belated Solstice to all.
Dec. 22nd, 2004 10:04 amWinter solstice was celebrated by gaming at A&A's. On the spot, I explained why gaming is the perfect way to celebrate Solstice: Solstice celebrates the ritual death and rebirth of various gods in various cultures and in tabletop gaming, you try to level up your character to the point where they're tough enough to go fight a god and kill it. Adam pointed out that sometimes the god kills your character. I observed that this is true, so no matter whether you are sacrificed by the hand of the god or it is the god itself which is sacrificed, gaming is the Holiest of Mysteris and therefor perfect way to celebrate Solstice. Not bad for a bunch of B.S. I completely made up on the spot!
Adam told me to never say that again. I said he was just scared because it made sense. He admitted that was the reason why.
Had a new person join our gaming group last night. His name is Kevin and I look forward to seeing more of him. After so much time with the A&A croud who, outside of gaming, actually have very few interests in common with me, it was nice to be able to sit there with someone who appreciates Beavis & Butthead references and with whom I can have a discussion over whether The Trooper or Can I Play With Madness? is the better Iron Maiden song.
Last night was an orgy of salad. No, not tossing the salad. Heavesn no! But real, actual, edible greenery. A&A made mountains of the best taco salad I have ever tasted for us all and insisted that we all take seconds. And I must say, you wouldn't think chopped up veggie burger steeped in taco season would be so delicious, but it is. Meghan abdicted her place at the gaming table due to some personal crisis bringing her world crashing down, (imagine that,) so her vegetarian fare was all mine. Then I picked up a Mandarin Chicken Salad from Wednesday's for my supper at work. I think I'm vitamin-deficient right now, so ingesting all those greens wasn't a bad idea.
On a side note, not to sound cruel, but each time I see Meghan anymore it just makes me more glad I didn't end up dating her. I have had enough of emotionally unstable, angry women. I can't date them anymore. Her boyfriend Matthew is becoming a master of crisis resolution and I frankly don't know how he finds the energy or the patience. It's one instance where I'm definately relieved that the more quallified applicant got the job.
