I guess I should update something about the weekend in more detail then I have. It was an uncommonly busy one for me. Interestingly enough, just about every weekend this month is shaping up to be busy. I can't remember the last time I had a month of busy weekends, let alone in August. My birthday is this month too, but I find that to be more of an inconvienience than anything else and I have since I was about twelve years old.
Went and saw
The Village Friday night and was very pleased with the film. If you like Shyamalan's other movies, you'll like this one. If you hate his other movies then you'll hate this one. It's the cast that really make this one work, I'll say that. The whole experience was hampered, unfortunately, by the theatre being filled with about a hundred stupid teenagers who do not deserve to live. They had great fun shouting loudly about how much they disliked the film. One sarcastically proclaiming that it deserved several "Grammy nominations." (Did I mention they do not deserve to live?) and another one who wouldn't stop shouting about how it had no plot.
I get the sad feeling that in his language, "plot" translates roughly as "sex and explosions."
Whatever. These kids would've been 8-10 years old when
The Sixth Sense came out. They have no clue who M. Night Shyamalan is. They were just there because they saw a lot of previews on TV. I hate teenagers. How I ever stood being one I don't know.
On Saturday drove down to Westport, the artsy, trendy, hippie-infested section of town. It's also infested with homeless people. The kind who think of clever comments to make about your appearance as you walk by them and who make up clever things to yell at you as you walk away from them without giving them anything. The bums in Westport approach it with the same passion anyone else does with their career. It's almost as if they enjoy being homeless. But beyond that, I discovered that one of the record shops down there has improved their metal selection considerably since I was last there. Today I went back and made a couple of purchases. (Therion and Testament, for those interested.) Sadly, I couldn't go into Aquarius, the pagan New Age store, because they're moving and the new location isn't opened yet. Suck :(
After watching a couple of movies, playing some Silent Hill 3 and talking to Lesley on the phone for a while, and chatting with
cygny (not necessarily in that order,) I called it a night. Slept till 12:30 this afternoon, got up, and spent half the day practicing the guitar and songwriting. My folks decided to go out to the casino today so I actually had some privacy which makes songwriting much easier. If you've ever tried it then you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I don't think I've practiced for that long at a stretch in years. It felt damn good and I'm beginning to think I may actually have a prayer of getting this music completed in time.
Only negative of all this was that I didn't get as much editing/writing on the novel done as I would've liked, so
cygny, your chapter probably won't come today. Sorry :( I'll need to spend this morning after work making up for lost time in that regard.
This weekend heralds more fun and games as I and hopefully Tahnee as well head out to see the production of
Romeo and Juliet which Dean and Lesley are in and which Lesley assures me is absolutely terrible. I also get to debut these musical abortions I've been working on for the ears of my poor keyboard player whom I love adore and worship and after she hears me play she'll see why :) But that's then and this all used to be now and is now later. Who knows what adventures wait in between?
