1. Take five books off your bookshelf.
2. Book #1 -- first sentence
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph:

A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the tree,, but the young girl seated beneath it did not seem to notice. Richard found himself remembering a theatrical performance of Robinson Caruso he had been taken to as a child: this was what Robinson Caruso might have looked like if he had been shipwrecked on a rooftop instead of a desert island. If I had known then what I know now of her, it would not have startled me in the least that this son of hers now chose to remind a D'Angeline courtesan that La Serenissima was a civilized nation while we were living in thatched hovels and scratching cheerfully in the dirt. Down there it was as if the world had become as flimsy as the muslin curtains at an old woman's window in the Via Gellia: as if the actual essence of the world were too old to care anymore about keeping up appearances. If the Solar Exalted would be another such complication, leave them be.
