Had to chase a homeless man off the property a little while ago who was trying to get in the front door. It's the little bursts of activity in my job that make up for the long periods of boredom.

Watched the Republican Convention on Fox News tonight. Big cheers go out to Ahnuhld for not succumbing to silly political correctness and cracking the "girlie man" line once again! :) HuzzaH! Big yawns go out to the Bush sisters who it would appear are not destined for a career in public speaking. And this is a good thing. Clearly their dad the president got all the brains in the family, which hasn't really mattered since John McCain hid them under a sofa cushion in the Oval Office and George hasn't been able to find them since.

Moving on to the "alright this is it" alluded to in the title, I'm taking my computer in today to hopefully put an end to the problem of the sickly modem which disconnects every thirty seconds while I'm on the internet. So those of you whom I chat with in the mornings, I will probably be gone for at least a couple of days. I'm not happy about it, but this is the way it's got to be or else I'm going to wind up throwing something and breaking it. I'll still have access to LJ and email but it will only be at night while I'm at work. I haven't decided if I'm taking it in after I get off work in the morning or if I'll do it this evening, but it will be done today. And if they tell me there's nothing wrong with it I will smack them in the head!

Ahnuld pissed me off big time. It's so nice to know that one can give a political speech consisting of nothing more than soundbites. Even better, they were largely wholly INAPPROPRIATE soundbites. Like his comment about the USA and how they give more to AIDS issues in other countries, when Shrub is well known for slashing the funding of AIDS and HIV prevention programs in the name of his own morality issues and the fact that he thinks that supplying condoms is somehow evil.

Or his whole bit about the Soviets. Oh, that was priceless. Yes, thanks to the good old USA, we no longer fear the Soviets! (We just fear them damn towelheads! They HAVE to be hiding WMD somewhere, and they're a threat dont'cha know!)

But then again, what do I know. ; )

Show me a political speech by anyone that consists of anything BUT soundbytes. At any rate, nothing he said was inaccurate; we do still give more to AIDS issues than any other country. And I don't think any president has given AIDS the attention that it needs/deserves. It was a shrewd political mood to have him address the AIDS issue since it's one that Bush is so weak on. That's what these conventions are about: shoring up the candidate's vulnerable points. If you'll recall, even I was impressed how well Kerry addressed his stance on the military at the DNC. And yes, the Soviet Union did gave way in large part due to our diplomatic efforts. It can be argued that with how badly mismanaged it was, (as just about any communist government is in all likelihood, destined to be,) that it would have collapsed on its own anyway, but I think we helped push it forward a good twenty years or so. As for the damn towelheads, I doubt so many different sources could have been wrong about the WMD. They were there and are still out there somewhere; probably in a different country's hands.

Really, I don't think either Bush or Kerry are the best President for this country, but forced to choose between the two I'm still picking Bush and only for the fact that at least when he makes up his mind on something, even if he's wrong, he sticks with it as opposed to Kerry who refuses to take a stand on anything and changes his views to whatever is most politically expedient at the time. That is what's killing him in this election and it's really sad because I like his ideas - I just wish those ideas would still be there the day after he gets elected, which, given his track record, they won't be.

I didn't say that Arnie's comments were inaccurate. I said that they were inappropriate. There's a huge difference.

I doubt so many different sources could have been wrong about the WMD. They were there and are still out there somewhere;

Riiiight.

probably in a different country's hands.

Then why are we still in Iraq? Why aren't we looking in other countries? Doesn't this bother you? Frankly I think we have a hell of a lot more to worry about in other countries, and that we should prioritize. You might dislike political wishy-washy-ness, but I simply cannot imagine nor tolerate four more years of this bullshit where our Commander in Chief is floundering about, desperately looking for any WMD but refusing to leave the country that does NOT HAVE THEM, while we have a veritable shitpot of economical and political problems here at home.

And if you want to discuss being wishy-washy...didn't Bush just now say that the war on terror cannot be won?
Why yes, yes he did.

Tell me what so many people were saying about the war on terror last night? About how we will win?

Yeah, that's good to know when so many people here are losing their jobs to people in India, and senior citizens are being forced to choose either medication, utilities or food any given month. At least while the majority of the American public cannot afford basic healthcare, we can sleep soundly knowing that young men and women in our armed forces are dying so that we can remain secure against these supposed people with WMDs out there "somewhere, possibly in another country's hands" and those naughty terrorists...who cannot be defeated.

But hey, at least our "leader" will be sticking to his guns.

Oh it bothers me, alright. I think the world is a better place without Saddam, but I thought the Iraq invasion was a bad idea at the time strategically. Afghanistan wasn't finished yet and there were more dangerous entities like North Korea and Iran, (no, I'm not saying we should have invaded those countries instead, but we shouldn't have impaired our ability to handle whatever problems they might cause down the road.) But now that we ARE in Iraq we can't just up and walk away. We're obligated to get it rebuilt and get the insurgencies under control. If we just up and left tomorrow you and I both know every liberal in the country would be screaming about how we were just abandoning all those poor people we were supposedly liberating... and they'd be right. I do believe the WMD's are someplace else, but now that we're in this mess we have to see it through to its conclusion.

I'm already choosing medication or my bills every month. It really sucks. I could rant forever about how fucked up health care in this country is, but it has been long before Bush ever got into office. He didn't create this mess, he merely inherited it. If Kerry has a plan to un-fuck health care in this country in four years' time, I will give him my undivided attention. The rub is, unfortunately, that he has flip-flopped on so many things that the burden of proof is on him to prove that he is better than Bush, not that we should merely elect him because he's not Bush. I find myself wanting to believe all the wonderful things I hear him say in his speeches: he's very charismatic. Unfortunately, his past actions have left me with nagging doubts that he will actually do any of it.

We can argue until election day about why Bush is bad and get nowhere. If you want to change my opinion then I need to be shown evidence why I can trust Kerry.

I'm not even going to bother commenting on the american political scene as I know nothing about it>.<~L~
As for modems and such. If it's your ethernet adaptor then the light for your pc should stop lighting up at all..let alone blinking activly on your modem. If it's the providers problem then it would be their light. Hope you catch this before you take your comp in cause if it's their problem then that'll save you money and time. I already had to bitch my provider out for the last 2 months for having a similar problem. I'd gone 6 months with perfect service and the moment I moved out of the downtown area my connection went down the crapper.
If it is your adapter card then sorry to hear that and talk to ya soon.

I don't think it's my provider because I used the same provider with my old PC and never had this problem. As for time and money, it's under warranty so I'm not too worried. I just hope it doesn't take long!

I've been using Yahoo lately since so many more people seem to be on there. I think my yahoo ID's on my profile. If it's not I'll post it there. Haven't been online much at night due to working on music. But I'll be back soon, I promise :)

my mother put the channel on the convention and then left the room with the remote way over on the other side of the known universe. Arnold's speach seemed to me to be mostly about the fact that he was a movie star and can give a speach with lots of sound bites. the bush sisters seemed to me to be reading a prompter with no practice and badly. I hate politics.

Hope they fix your computer quick-like. This makes two people with their computers in the shop. I hope that means that I have two people with working comps next week.

All the way over here, in dreary rain ridden Vancouver BC, my fave radio station was belittling Arnold and the fact that he made a speech of "movie proportions" and that he couldn't hold himself back from making references to his movies.

That's nothing new with Arnold. Every speech I've ever heard him make on TV has been peppered with jokes about his movies. Part of it may be pure narcissism, but I think he just likes to have fun with his image.

Sorry to hear about your computer. We're having issues with that in the dorm, especially after a huge electrical storm fried the lines. Though I think our jack was busted before that but...So it goes. Hopefully it will be fixed this week.
