I think I need a shower and a cigarette - and not just from chatting with [livejournal.com profile] nolens_volens tonight. I just finished the second draft of the novel. Now I have no more excuses. Nothing left to do but to go out and find an agent and publisher. Sure, there may be one or two very minor tweaks here and there, but the writing by and large is done, done, done. Of course, that doesn't count the submission outline I have to write and all the query letter's I'll have to compose. But... wow. I'm finally _here_ people. The day has finally happened. I guess now I'm plum out of excuses if I'm not spending every spare moment trying to get this thing on bookstore shelves. If I don't have proof of my efforts in a month's time, all of you feel free to come to my house and kick my ass. It is your duty as friends.

In other news, went to a Legend of the Five Rings tournament today and had the best time I've had at such an event in well over a year now. The guy running it gave out a ton of door prizes so everyone walked away with some loot. I now have a boken, (Japanese practice sword,) thanks to this. Hey [livejournal.com profile] anirishspitfire, it looks like I have no excuse not to take up iaijutsu now, huh? Pretty dang cool, I think. I didn't make top eight, but I won more than I lost and that's enough to keep me happy.

All in all, not bad for a day's work. And a fine way to end things as I prepare to submerge into the last cycle of play rehearsals, a.k.a., Hell Week X2.

Huzzah.

Awesome, man!

So, who won? Did Lion continue their eternal gutterstomping of every other clan?

I didn't stay for the top 8, although Hadsall's assclown squadron were all a part of it even though Hadsall himself didn't play. I played Hida Champions and did fairly well. Got my ass stomped by this fourteen year old kid playing a Crab duck that was levelling everything in its path. I don't know how he was doing it seeing how it basically broke every single rule of success in Diamond edition. (There wasn't a thing in the deck that cost under 7 gold.) Had I not been so disgusted I would've asked what all else he had in there. I hope he kicked all their obnoxious asses in the top 8. But Tibbles was there so we can probably assume he won.

ok, who is Tibbles? I've never heard of the guy, which means he probably didn't come into the radar until gold.

I hadn't heard of him before then. Dan Tibbles. He used to run Cardhaus up in Seattle. Now he lives in Wichita and apparently has nothing better to do than travel around the country winning every single L5R tournament he possibly can. Unlike Hadsall and the rest, however, he seems to have the odd distinction of actually being a somewhat-nice guy. He's the one who won two storyline tournaments in a row recently with the Lion and got everybody bandwagoning on that particular Clan.

I'll certainly see what I can do.

Yep. C is for "complete" and that's good enough for me!

heh. With Lion, it's surprisingly easy to do so. God, they're brutal.

I don't doubt there are some killer Lion decks out there, but my experience so far in tournaments has been thus:

Me: I play [Insert title of scary battle action here]
Them: I bow Kyuden Ikoma to cancel.
Me: Fall On Your Knees.
Them: Fuck.

Well, the big problem is the preponderance of 3 ph tactician monsters with high chi out there. You can't out-duel them. You can't out-honor them, and in battle they can do scary things like Luring/Slaughter and White Shore Plains.

Makes for a scary deck. Though yes, Fall On Your Knees is essential. Unfortunate, since it's a pretty crappy card except for some very ugly combos. :)

True. Of course the two times I've run up against them in tournaments so far I've been playing Mantis and Crab. You certainly can shoot and Relentless Assault those pesky Lions. Honestly, the Clan who's been my biggest problem so far in tournaments has been Unicorn whose peeps are generally too huge force-wise for either of the aforementioned strategies.

Yeah. Mantis eats Lion's lunch, generally. :)

Unicorn is rough. I played a bit against Stu's deck (he was a guy who made top-4 at that tourney playing the Unicorn spells-as-items deck), and it was tough to keep your head above water against it.

Oh man... Stu. *rolls eyes* Yet another poster boy for negative gamer stereotypes. Here is my impersonation of a conversation with Stu.

Person Talking To Someone Who is Not Stu: Yeah, I won my last match. I managed to draw my third [Insert key card name here} and there was just nothing he could do.

Stu: (Interrupting)OH MAN THERE'S NO WAY YOU'D BEABLE TO DO THAT AGAINST MYUNICORN DECKBECAUSE I'D JUST MOVE MOTO LATOMU INTO THE BATTLE AND SHOOT THAT GUY BEFORE HE COULD DO ANYTHING AND IT WOULDN'T MATTER ANYWAY BECAUSE ALL MY PERSONALITIES HAVE MORE THAN FIVE FORCE AND I'VE ALWAYS GOT THIRTY FORCE ON THE TABLE BY THE END OF TURN TWO AND ANYTHING YOU BRING OUT I'LL JUST PLAY MY KOLAT ASSASSIN ON AND WHEN I GET ALL MY WEAPONS OUT YOU MAY AS WELL JUST NOT EVEN PLAY AND YOU SHOULD REALLY COME TO OGRE'S BOOKSHELF AND PLAY BECAUSE WE HAVE TOURNAMENTS THERE EVERY WEEKEND AND I WIN EVER TIME AND I'M GOING TO THE KOTEI THIS YEAR AND WHEN I WIN I'M GOING TO DO THIS THIS AND THIS FOR THE STORYLINE AND UNICORN BECAUSE UNICORN ARE JUST THE BEST CLAN AND WHEN I GET THE CLAN SWORD ON CHAGATAI THERE'S JUST NOTHING THAT CAN STOP ME AND I TAKE TWO PROVINCES IN ONE TURN THAT WAY MOST GAMES FNORD, FNORD, FNORD, FNORD...

Don't get me wrong, he's a nice enough kid, but he could really use a volume control, some manners, and a concept of personal space.

Therein lies the main reason why I hate my job. How'd you like to deal with multiple people exactly like him EVERY DAY. Oh, and you have to treat them nice because they're your bread and butter.

If it weren't for gamers, my store would close. But if it weren't for my store, I'd likely stop hanging out with gamers.
