I was watching the annual really cool commercials fest Sunday night, (what some call the "Super Bowl,") and I saw the preview for the movie Troy. I was sitting here thinking "man, this is gonna be awesome." And then, a horrifying realization hit me...

Brad Pitt is playing Achilles.

Achilles, in case you didn't know it, is gay. That's not wrong, mind you. It's ancient Greece and they did that back then. But it is something that gets glossed over a great deal. Achilles spends 60% of The Illiad avenging the death of his gay lover. He is gay and Brad Pitt is playing him.

Slowly, my mind began to tie the knots. Brad Pitt as gay man + Orlando Bloom also in film. Brad Pitt. Gay Man. Orlando Bloom. Do you have any idea what this means?

I'll tell you what it means. When this movie comes out there is going to be a plague of Slash fiction the likes of which the internet has never seen.

Flee now if you know what's good for you. You have been warned.

I really don't get Orlando Bloom. How can anyone be technically male, yet look SO much like a woman. The only character he could play with any believability at all would be Paris.

Oh well, it's a big Hollywood production. It won't be good, it will just be lots of big fights and an occasional dialogue choice that makes you scream in agony.

Yeah, for a fair treatment of the subject we'll have to wait until Goose finishes his long-promised thesis, "How Manly Love Got Left Off the 'Approved' List in Western Religion"

hmm. this makes me curious just what sorta demographic will show up for openning night and thereafter. i figure most people wont be up on their history enough to think they're going to see a film about some gay dudes. especially if Brad Pitt is starring. Personally, i really dont care to see a bunch of overly gay stuff in my movies.. but i wonder how many guys will want to see the movie and then feel like "good GOD! agh! what are they DOING!!" heh. i can see Brian flipping out right now as he gets up to go get some popcorn or go to the bathroom or something.

Or do you think they'll somehow kinda try and avoid the whole blatant homosexuality issue or downplay it to gain the approval and dinero of the masses?

Oh I'm sure it'll be a whitewash, (of the tale, I mean. Not a whitewash of male faces with lusty man-jism.) It's being pushed too much as a mainstream film for them to safely explore the themes of manly warrior love, I would imagine. Unfortunately, Slash writers are usually geeky enough to know about this stuff beforehand
