I can't recall my parents ever telling me a flat-out "no" on toys. If they could afford it I typically got it, eventually. But I desperately wanted and never got the G1 Transformer figures Prowl and Skywarp. They discontinued them before I was able to add them to my collection and my desire for them never lessened.
Around 2001 or so they reissued a bunch of the G1 figures and I got my beloved Prowl and Skywarp. Never have I been happier to click "Buy It Now" on ebay. When I finally opened them up and put them together I felt like my childhood was finally a closed chapter. It was finally complete.
