If mass hallucinations were that easy to have people would have them all the time.
At this point I would welcome people looking at this stuff with a skeptical eye as long as they are looking at it. "Oh five thousand birds just died" should make people at least slightly curious as to why rather than just shrugging and going back to playing Farmville.
