It says something to how nauseating Morgaine and Gwenhwyfar are when they can overshadow Vivian in terms of being unlikeable. Maybe it's because Vivian is clearly MZB's favorite character in the story. Mists doesn't do anything to educate about ancient Christian/Pagan relations and does nothing to encourage tolerance between them today. If anything, it proves that both religions were abhorrent and completely deserved each other. Which would make it an awesome book had that been MZB's stated goal, but she was pretty clear that her intention was the opposite.
