Letters From Iwo Jima - How did I not hear about this movie? I haven't seen it yet but I really want to. Telling the Battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of the Japanese - wtih an all-Japanese cast, I might add - and releasing it as a major American film is a pretty ballsy thing to do. Frankly, it's a story I've long been interested in hearing and plus - Ken Watanabe, who could do car insurance commercials and I would go out of my way to watch them. I guess this means I should really go out of my way to finally see Batman Begins, huh? I think the Bat takes precedence over car insurance commercials.
What surprises me most is the lack of outcry over this movie. Where are the indignant patriots spewing rage over how anyone would DARE present WWII-era Japan in any kind of sympathetic light? Where are the brigades of beer-bellied rednecks waving Old Glory and changint "YOOO-ESSSS-AAAAY! YOOO-ESSS-AAAY!"? I guess they figure because Clint Eastwood directed it, it's okay. I'm glad we're without them. I just want to see the movie.
