i haven't read anansi boys, so i can't comment on that book, but i wasn't that impressed with American Gods (i had that one figured out within the first few chapters) and Neverwhere. I mean, I didn't think they were bad, i just didn't find them all that exciting.
I get the impression that Gaiman's always better when he works with someone on something.
