I thought about mentioning how delightfully British it was, but that didn't seem necessary. I think the studios are just downright terrified of taking a chance on anything from another country for fear we Americans are too dumb to "get it." It's aggravating and unfair to us here as there is some high quality work coming out of Europe right now. These two films prove these countries can compete toe-to-toe with any of the biggest, most bloviated special effects blockbusters Hollywood can produce.

I also found moments that made me think of Neverwhere. It was like a Neverwhere for kids, substituting teen angst for the midlife crisis.
