30 Days of Music Meme - Day 5
Jun. 7th, 2010 01:38 amDay 5 - A song that reminds you of someone.
In college I knew a guy named Chris who was this big, scary, angry-looking punk rocker. He rarely spoke and had this intensity around him like he was always on the edge of violence. He was homeless, crashing with friends most of the time. When he finally got an old beat up van to live in it was the happiest I'd seen him.
But he had an oddly poetic soul, a really deep sensitive side that he rarely showed. One night a bunch of us went out to a farm owned by an acquaintance and built a bonfire around which we sang songs. Although it was mostly Chris singing songs to us. This was one that he sang and it remains my strongest memory of him. That big, intimidating punk rocker singing a Jim Croce ballad on a very emotional, mystical night now encapsulates a particular time in my life in a way I never could have imagined at the time.
