So getting quotes for that meme I wound up going to IMDB.com's page for David Lynch's Dune. Some genius on the message board there was going on and on about all the uncanny parallels between Dune and the Iraq war and how they were so similar and wasn't that a spooky coincidence?

Yeah, there's parallels alright. Frank Herbert BASED Dune on the Middle Eastern oil economy and the politics and violence involved therein. And there are many real-life personages to whom Paul Atreides may be compared to, but I think ol' Frank would be spinning in his grave if he knew that there was some jerk out there comparing Paul to Dubya with a straight face. And get this, Gurney Halleck is Tony Blair. Because, you know, Patrick Stewart is like, British. And the bad guy's name is Shaddam, which kind of sounds like "Saddam."

If he had started going on about how Chani almost sort of kind of sounds like "Condi" I think I might have hit the computer screen. And kicked it. And yelled at it - BRRREEEAAAAAAAAK!!!!

And now, what with there being more restrictions on airline travel, we can start wandering around screaming "THEY DENIED US THE HAJJ!!!"

This entry is what you get when I haven't been to bed all day. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then get out of your fucking cave and go read Dune because it's the most important book written in the last fifty years.

Okay, okay, it's the most important book written in the last fifty years except for Grover and the Monster At The End of This Book. There, are you happy now?

Literary snobs.
