I should not be up
Mar. 7th, 2006 09:28 amIt's been one day and rehearsals are already whupping me into exhaustion. Granted, part of that had to do with only getting six hours' sleep yesterday after a nine hour shift since my relief overslept. But it's exciting and fun to be working on a play again. The director and I go back a few years and have acted together but this is my first time being directed by him. He's got a great approach to directing and he was really impressed with everything I did last night and thinks I'm way ahead of the game for just having walked in the door on the production. I just hope my memorization skills live up to his lofty opinion of me!
For those not familiar with Waiting For Godot, my character, Lucky, has a three-page speech which is spoken very fast with no pauses or breaks of any kind. We're talking "End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" fast. I've arleady got a fifth of it memorized and that's pretty good, but I mixing it up with all the stage business will be challenging. Especially considering that we have less than three weeks!
Anyway, basic life tasks like grocery shopping and laundry will require meticulous scheduling, that's the trade off for evening rehearsals. But it's worth it. Now, however, I remember why I only do this once or twice a year ;)
