Something to think about
Dec. 27th, 2004 05:56 amSo much death. It hasn't been the happiest of holidays. Two people on my friends list have lost loved ones very dear to them these past few days. My heart goes out to them. Never take the ones you love for granted, for none of us is promised tomorrow.
And then there is the super-sized surving of apocalypse that much of Asia received in the form of tsunamis. I was watching the footage on CNN of the devastation and it is just absolutely horrible. Heartbreaking is the only word that begins to describe it. And then I got to thinking...
Local hospitals, (the ones that are standing,) are running out of medicines.
Bodies are rotting in the water and tropical heat because there is no place to store all the dead.
There is no clean drinking water. Water-borne diseases are going to spread.
There is no food to eat.
There is no shelter.
People there are likely going to have to do without these taken-for-granted ammenities for a long time.
No one can give them any of these things... but goddamnit, they CAN get news crews out there to photograph all of it!
