Oh, Miseltoe. I'm seeing ghosts...
Dec. 23rd, 2003 07:29 pmChristmas is dead. Long live Christmas. I can't tell if I'm what's different or if it's the world that is. It seems like when I was child and even up until a few short years ago you were bombarded with Christmas from October until New Year's. The whole world said they thought it was too comercialized and wished it would go away.
Be careful what you wish for, Bright-Eyes. Do you see Christmas anywhere anymore? No. The whole world is afraid even to say the word. "Happy Holidays" is about as close as you can get and it's pretty damn half-hearted. Welcome to Christmas in the politically-correct 21st century. When was the last time you saw a creche? Do you even know what a "creche" is? Welcome to the world the world asked for. I hope you got exactly what you wanted.
My general lonliness and overall unhappiness with what's become of my favorite holiday have been compounded by my boss at the service center calling me and informing me I WOULD be working over for four hours tomorrow morning. I would like just one week to go by where I don't have to work over for him because one of his boys can't make it in. And no, the extra four hours on the paycheck are not the point. Add this to the fact that I've been unusually clumsy this whole past week and the fact that I keep losing things, (Lost the master key at work, lost my work neck tie, things like this come in threes so what's next?) and I wind up in a pretty LJGoth mood, so sorry if it comes across as whiny.
I'm in a mood I just don't see a way out of at the moment. Somehow I don't think working twelve hours tonight and til dawn on Christmas morning are going to imporve it. Maybe I'll figure out how to "choose" to be happy between now and then. Maybe not.
