My stomach hurts today. Not bad, just irritated enough to be, well, irritating. I'm hoping it's just a side-effect of my acid reflux medicine. I really don't need another layer thrown on the heap of stomach problems I've inherited from my mother. Or more accurately, perhaps I should say I don't need another heap from my mother's layer thrown on me. If I've gone and developed an ulcer like she has and her mother had then that's just one more thing. Nice to know that just when it seems like you're getting one fire put out another one can be counted on to start. For anyone who thinks acid reflux disease is a joke I have a fun game for you to play: Take up sword swallowing. And do it wrong. Really, really wrong. Then get your blood-retching carcass up off the ground and quit crying, you big crybaby. The pain you're feeling is NOTHING compared to this disease.

The day before yesterday I drank my first glass of orange juice in over a year. I can't describe to you how wonderful that was, just drinking a bloody glass of orange juice. Seven years ago I drank orange juice all the time. Every day. For over a year I have been physically incapable of doing it. I have greater sympathy for elderly people now, having had a taste of what it feels like to slowly lose the ability to do or enjoy things you once took for granted, one by one, until all you have left are memories of the ease you once enjoyed. And the memories are far more curse than pleasure.

I'm whining. I shouldn't do that. My complaints are insults to people with real problems. Like Parkinson's Disease. They can't even pick up the glass or the orange juice either one.

But pain is pain and the Pandora's Box inside my belly can lay off with the surprises any old time it wants to.

In other news, the trip to get the tax waiver this past morning was amazingly swift and painless. Sadly, sleep was not forthcoming today so I'm pretty much drifting here at work. Only four more hours and then I can get some shut-eye. Heh. "Only."

Orange juice:) mmmmm... vitamin C never tasted so good in liquid form.

I'm glad you were able to get some meds. and hopefully they dont break your pocketbook too badly. Soon you shall be eating hotwings and all manner of craziness.

I already am. I'm just worried the meds have something to do with the pain. I'm probably going to have to switch to Nexium (expensive perscription stuff,) anyway, though, and it's never caused me any side effects.

~Hug!~ Congradulations on the orange juice. Your description recalled to mind a story I once read about a man who was taken as a prisoner of war and placed in a stone room all by himself for weeks. One day, the guard brought him an orange, and just even the sheer color of it was so startling and beautiful he almost cried. Just the simple act of getting an orange was incredible. So yeah...go you, good luck!

Thanks so much. It is indescribable what freedome from pain feels like. And the blessing of being able to enjoy something again that you thought you'd lost forever is likewise profound. That prisoner's story resonates with me more than you know.

May I suggest some Tabasco Sauce and Wild Turkey. That'll cure that reflux stuff right away.

Heh. May be a cure worse than the disease!

I go through approximately 1.4 bottles of Tabasco sauce per month. Ha ha ha.

I love tabasco sauce actually. I eat it because it doesn't really matter what I eat. I suffer equally as bad whether it's habanero peppers or an apple.
