uberreiniger: (death of Ironhide)

I've been following the murder case down in Florida. Four men were annoyed that a woman ran them out of the house they were squatting in illegally so they broke into her house and bludgeoned her and five other people with her to death with aluminum baseball bats. All the victims were so badly beaten that dental records couldn't even identify them.

Yesterday on Yahoo there was an article about in which one of the accused men's relatives made the remark about what a "nice boy" and "good kid" he was and how it "never ever seemed like he would ever do anything like that." And I just have to ask... how blind can people be? Every brutal, insane murder spree like this one you've always got some gaping jackdaw who says the same damn thing. Just once I would like to hear a friend or relative of one of these uncontrollable killing machines tell things like they really are. "I wondered when he was gonna crack and kill somebody. Glad I wasn't there when he finally snapped." or "N***** scared the fuck outta me! They got cattle prods in that jail? They're gonna need 'em!" It would make me feel better anyway.

And of course, the article just wasn't complete without one of the young men's fathers explaining that "he wasn't bad, he just fell in with the wrong crowd." Parents like that ought to be charged as accessories just on general principle. The wrong crowd smokes pot and graffitis buildings. They don't disfigure people with baseball bats. Then again, how should I know what they do? They just seem like such nice boys and such good kids...

oh man... do i ever agree! a couple months back they caught this guy just up the road who had been raping and killing crack whores and then dumping the carcass in a nearby bay. and while i can't argue with the choice of victims too much, all i could do was sit there with my jaw dropped open when his mom came to his defense saying "oh my boy would never do such a thing. he was always trying to do the right thing and take care of his own business".. hah. i guess doing the right thing involved assault with a deadly weapon, tons of crack charges, aggrivated assault, sexual assault, ect ect ect. I mean... i know it's your flesh and blood, but what point is there to try and make them out to be some "misunderstood" scapegoat for the public's unfounded hate? But people who are in denial about reality piss me off in general. I hate it whenever anyone just *chooses* to overlook blatant facts just so they can go on thinking/doing what they want or to make themselves feel better. And facts dont get much more blatant than brutal murders.

You may have heard of the Carr Brothers case in Wichita, KS. which was the epitome of this nonsense. These two brothers invaded a home, raped the three girls and killed them and made their boyfriends watch, then murdered the three guys. The one girl who survived played dead, then walked a mile in the snow with a gunshot wound to the head to get help. Anyway, it was priceless at their sentencing hearing. The defense put on some little old lady who'd known these maniacs since they were two or whatever and she's going on about what sweet, nice boys they were and how they always helped her and took care of her, blah, blah, blah. The D.A., God bless her, all she did for her cross-examination was show the old lady the photos of the bloody, naked corpses and asked "does this look like the actions of sweet, nice boys?"

The old lady's response?

"..."

No further questions, your honor.

What's driving me crazy about this is that they're calling it the XBox murders, as if the game system had anything to do with it....you know the crazies will be coming out of the wings to ban video games after this.

Man, the catchy headlines greedy journalists come up with without even thinking of the consequences. Blaming the Xbox will make people feel a lot better than they will addressing the real issue: that someone would commit such brutal murder for such a trivial material item. But that doesn't make it less absurd. Nobody wants to ban $200 sneakers when a kid gets killed over those.

The stations probably don't take the fucked up interviews because they could have charges pressed against them for slander... even if/when the murderer in question is sentanced. :/

Hmm... That is a very good point.

it's a much more sensational story if it was a good kid gone bad. Nobody cares if the bad seed goes nuts. Where's the shock value? They want the feeling of "it could be your neighbor"
